BAM is built on top of applications integration, ABI makes use of webMethods Inc's BAM software to real-time collect data and compute an enterprise's Kep Performance Indices (KPI's), and other enterprises metrics at the same time, and when KPI(s) drops to a pre-set threshold, the software will provide real-time alert, and store that snapshot with other business metrics as a "finger-print", and provide correlation and other analysis to provide the problem's possible reasons and store the solutions for the problems.

When the problem may happen again, the software uses "finger-prints" as reference to analysis, and provide pre-alert before the KPI(s) have dropped to the pre-set threshold(s), to enable the executives and managers to know and to solve he problems earlier. If the executives / managers are willing, the software can even automatically solve some possible problems.
